In England she already worked with famous stars like Jay Z, Kanye West and Rihanna as well as she spinned her music for the Royal princesses, now she mixed her music to celebrate the ´New Concept Stores´ of Damat Tween at Izmirs Alsancak store. The 450 square meter store was filled with special guest who were entertained with a trunk-show of the new spring summer collection 2012. The 7 models where styled by Turkey´s fashion model Selda Car. Right after the show, the centre of the store was changed into a dance floor where all the guest could dance on DJMarieClaire´s mixes…

Showdan hemen sonra, tüm konuklar DJ Marie Claire’in çaldığı müzikler ile mağazanın ortasında dans alanına dönüştürülen alanda dans etti.

We know many Fashion Cities around the world but if we are talking about Men’s fashion, it is the PITTI UOMO Immagine fair in Florence where it all happens twice a year. PITTI is all about Menswear and fashion: from garments, accessories, grooming products and even fragrances. It is not only the fair and the after-parties which can amuse you in Florence, but the city is beautiful in itself as well. Not to forget that Florence is the hometown of Fashion Imperials like Ferragamo and Gucci. Here are some places you want to visit during your short stay.

Pass the Jewellery shops at the famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge and visit one of the interesting exhibitions at the Museum Palazzo Pitti. Going back, towards city centre, you cannot miss one of the most famous museums in the world: Galleria degli Uffizi.

Located in the heart of Florence it hosts works of art by great Italian artists such as Botticelli, Giotto, Cimabue, Michelangelo and Raffaello (just to name a few of them..). The long lines of visitors at the museum’s entrance are almost as famous as the artists, so arrange your trip, buy your ticket online and you can use your valuable time to visit The Gallery of the Accademia di Belle Arti as well. While you are in Florence, you should see the original David by Michelangelo (don’t be fooled with a copy of the statue in front of the Palazzo Vecchio). Visit the massive Florence cathedral  “The Duomo; impossible to miss as it’s in the centre of the shopping area. Stroll through the daily market starting from Piazza San Lorenzo and have a quick bite at Bondi, where you have the chance to indulge one of the best focaccia”s, straight from the oven.

Walk back direction “Duomo” and have a look in LuisaViaRoma. It is the number one concept store in Florence and definitely worth the visit, if you are looking for the latest trends in fashion. They presented the “Pug Dogs for Happy Kids“ project recently, where 20 selected designers (Balmain, Pucci, Cavalli, etc.) collaborate with Toy brand Steiff to create exclusive, one of a kind “designer dogs” and donate the sales to UNICEF.

Sip on a Prosecco at the The Savoy Hotel’s bar before your dinner. This is a place were it is all about good service and, maybe even more important, “to see and to be seen”. Make sure you made your dinner reservations in advance, restaurants are fully booked around these days. Trattoria Sostanza, is not a very “upscale” place but it’s the “Butter Chicken”, “the Bistecca Fiorentina” and the “wild strawberries and creamy meringue” which will make you remember this place for years and the mashed potatoes with grilled artichokes in Ristorante Cibreo are to die for! If you are looking for a trendier place try Ristorante 4 Leoni and dine among designers and fashion magazine editors.

After an intense day of sightseeing and shopping, make sure you have booked (again in advanced, its crowded around PITTI) a nice comfortable hotel room in the city centre. The Savoy hotel and The Lungarno Suites by Ferragamo are definitely a recommendation to get pampered during your stay.

Boutique Nadine is a wonderful and charming vintage store for the wife’s or girlfriends. It is a wonderful place to find some vintage designer pieces without the outrageous price tags and slight mouldy smell of old clothes.

To do some “gentleman shopping” try the historic Profumeria Inglese, founded in 1843 by the pharmacist and inventor of talcum powder Henry Roberts. The shop is in a solid 19 century style with dark woods and sell valuable Italian, French, Swiss and Japanese brand like Acqua di Parma, Creed, Penhaligon’s, Chanel, Lancôme, Pier Augé, Starline, Arc,Valmont, Shiseido and it is just steps away from the Duomo. After surviving for 150 years, this Perfumery is put in the list of the 57 “untouchable” shops, protected by the Belle Arti Minister.

Il Papiro, founded in 1976 in Florence, was first in Italy to rediscover the fine taste for materials and techniques in paper crafts. It provides an exquisite collection of agendas, notepads, notebooks, pencils, pencil sharpeners, photo frames, seals with your initials to be stamped in wax and many more hand-made paper goods for any occasion.

PN\P “a piedi nudi nel parco” translates to “Barefoot in the Park” is a retail space nestled in the heart of Florence. It has two shops that cater a more “alternative crowd” with a focus international and local designers with a goth/rock/avant-garde edge. The interior stands out because it is set among Roman ruins of the old city walls (visible in the basement area. You can find clothes, jewellery, shoes and bags while enjoying your espresso at the bar in the corner.

Le Corbusier is known as one of the founding fathers of modern architecture. BİLGİ – Mimarlık and Foundation Le Corbusier is organizing a conference and an exhibition at İstanbul Bilgi University’s Santral Campus and santralistanbul in October to commemorate the 100^th anniversary of his legendary travel diary Journey to the East which also includes Turkish cities. Parallel to the conference famous architecture photographer Cemal Emden’s “VISUAL RECORD: A Look at Le Corbusier’s inventory” exhibition will be at santralistanbul’s Main Gallery from October 8 to November 13 to contribute the conference experience.

Modern mimarlığın kurucu liderlerinden olan Le Corbusier’nin 1911 yılında gerçekleştirdiği ve Türk kentlerine de uğradığı Doğu Gezisi’nin 100. yıldönümünde, BİLGİ-Mimarlık ile Fondation Le Corbusier’nin ortaklaşa düzenlediği konferans ve sergi Ekim 2011’de İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Santral Kampüsü ve santralistanbul’da gerçekleşecek. Konferansa paralel olarak mimarlık fotoğrafçısı Cemal Emden’in “GÖRSEL KAYIT: Le Corbusier Yapıtdökümüne Bir Bakış” isimli sergisi 8 Ekim-13 Kasım tarihleri arasında santralistanbul Ana Galeri’de yer alacak.

Wanders’ Mermaids

One of the superstars of world design scene, Marcel Wanders is preparing to take us to a journey to Moooi world on September 23. In his new photography project entitled Mermaids, Wanders pictured Moooi products in an epic underwater world while the Moooi Gallery in Amsterdam is designed to create an underwater atmosphere to introduce us the products waiting at the deep sea.

Mermaids isimli fotograf projesinde Wanders Moooi ürünlerini sualtı dünyası içerisine yerleştirmiş ve aynı şekilde Amsterdam’daki Moooi galerisi de suya batmış izlenimi vererek izleyicileri derinliklerde bekleyen ürünlerle tanıştırmaya hazırlanıyor.

When the paparazzi were not around…

Although it is difficult to imagine celebrities without the paparazzi nowadays, in the olden times the rules of being a celebrity were quite different.  The Glamour of the Gods, Hollywood Portraits exhibition at London National Portrait Gallery depict the real meaning of celebrity with 70 select portrait photographs of legends like Greta Garbo, James Dean, Marlene Dietrich and Clark Gable which were taken from 1920s until 1960s. No bulging breasts, no cellulites, no drug abuse problems and no one caught in the act! Real stars posing like real gods! If you think this is hard to even imagine, you can check out the exhibition until October 23 at London National Portrait Gallery.

Endüstrinin 1920 ve 1960 arasında geçirdiği altın dönemi anlatan fotograflarda Greta Garbo, James Dean, Marlene Dietrich, Clark Gable gibi isimlerin objektif karşısında nasıl devleştiğine şahit olabilirsiniz. Sarkmış göğüsler, selülitler, çapkınlık sırasında yakalanmalar veya uyuşturucuyla savaş halinde olanlar yok! Gerçek starlar gerçek birer tanrı gibi poz veriyor! Düşünmesi bile zor değil mi?

Damien Hirst & Red Hot Chili Peppers

One of the true Western legends of rock, Red Hot Chili Peppers collaborates with British artist Danient Hirst for the cover of their 10^th album “I’m With You” which will be released on August 30. The band will be touring Europe to promote their new album in October and December.

Bu this time we are not going to see the Big Five of Africa or the migrating whales…Our aim is to go out on a Safari in pursuit of modern photography. Moreover, we will do this in London, instead of South Africa. Figures & Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography exhibition will take look at the economics and the sociology of the country over the works of 17 photographers from 2000 to 2010. The exhibition can be seen at Victoria & Albert Museum until July 17.

The second Matter-Light Exhibition opens at Istanbul Borusan Music House on May 28. The first one was held last year and with a record braking 35 thousand visitors, it was a very successful event. Curated once again by Richard Castelli and promising an extraordinary experience by subverting the perception of gravity and time, the exhibition will feature works of 7 contemporary artists. The exhibition can be visited free of charge at Borusan Music House until September 25.
