Electric cars will be competing in a new global formula racing series after a deal between motorsport´s governing body and a group of investors who plan to stage international races around the world. In 2014 the Formula E championship will start involving 10 teams and 20 drivers. The reason for this entire new organisation is the fact that the Federation Internationale de l´Automobile had struggles with several F1 teams to get them think about their environmental responsibilities.

Formulec, a French maker of electric racing cars, developed a prototype vehicle: a two-gear machine that runs off lithium-iron batteries and weighs 780kg, has a maximum speed of 220km per hour, and an acceleration of 0 to 100km/h in 3 seconds. It can run for 25 minutes before charging, meaning drivers will have to use a second car to complete the one-hour race.

Hopefully the new series attracts a new younger audience to motor racing, although I am still considering the fact that electric cars don’t make any noise and how much that will have an impact on adrenaline and excitement of the viewers?

Ümit vericidir ki bu yeni seri genç izleyicileri kendine doğru çekiyor ama buna rağmen beni düşündüren şey elektrikli araçların sessiz olmasından dolayı izleyicilere o (hazzı) adrenalini ve heyecanı yaratmayacaktır.

At the Monaco Grand Prix later this year, they revealed a special-edition version of the innovative, expandable weekend cruiser.
